We are the LIL (living in love) Project. Every child deserves a chance to pursue their dreams, this we do believe! They are the seeds of our future, and there is unique greatness to unlock within each soul. The key is education - The only sustainable solution to build a world with more love and less suffering.
It’s about being concerned with the world with an extended perspective of proximity. At the LIL project, we really care about the world's biggest challenges, so we play our role.
“LIL isn’t Little” is our motto, reminding us that no amount of assistance in all its forms is ever really little.
The forefront of our mission is to develop sustainable solutions to tackle the challenges of extreme poverty, ensuring that a child’s first thought in the morning is never “Will I eat today?”
A better life starts from having a safe home and a chance for education. We are committed to providing quality education to equip children with the knowledge and skills to overcome the poverty cycle.
Many children we work with have been traumatised by conflicts that have seen thousands of lives destroyed. We want to restore love and hope into their lives, to give them a good reason to smile.
Sustainable change isn't providing the community with what they want, but rather, empowering them and equipping them with the tools and skills to be self sufficient.
The LIL Project was first established in New York as ‘The Haiti Relief Project’, in response to a major earthquake in 2010. Our team managed to raise enough funds to rebuild ‘Les Petits Anges de Chantal’, an orphanage devastated by the disaster. This was made possible through selling photography services to running school bake sales, and with the sponsorship of the Raider Soccer Team in North Brunswick, New Jersey.
In Kenya, we work in Kibera, the largest urban slum in Africa and region overcome by extreme poverty. We are working with ‘Angels of Hope’, an orphanage that acts as a school during the day and a home in the evening, for 58 children with ages ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade. Our goal with this mission to ensure the children have a brighter future by providing them with quality education that can equip them with skills to to not only combat the poverty cycle they live in, but to grow into future leaders that will drive their societies forward. Some of the children are living with HIV and are receiving monthly treatment to ensure their health.
Tohender Orphanage is an independent Norwegian organisation founded by Grace Ertzgaard, a Ugandan Norwegian. Tohender has supported the lives of many orphaned children in Northern Uganda. Many of these children have experienced adversities and fatal encounters as a result of the 20 year insurgency of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) led by Joseph Kony. The LIL Project is committed to devising sustainable solutions to keep the orphanage up and running, and to support the children in their education, development, and well-being.
We initiated the ‘LIL Cattle Project’ for Tohender Orphanage in Lira, Uganda. We chose the Friesian cattle breed, as each cow can produce up to 9 litres of milk each day! Not only is this now serving as nourishment for the children, it is also great source of revenue, and profits are invested back into the children’s education and daily necessities.
We are always keen to meet our sponsors and donors, so feel free to drop us an email to make a donation in person! You can contribute to the project online as well:
We host events affiliated with various subcultures of art! Our current series of events is called ‘PARTY FOR LOVE’, a bimonthly performing arts show held under the sponsorship of Horse Bazaar. This provides a platform for established or upcoming music and dance artists to showcase their art, all the while inspiring love and unity in the local community and making a positive impact on communities around the world.
